Mascara Review: Benefit, Maybelline, and L’ORÉAL

Mascara Review

If I had to live with one make up product for the rest of my life, I would choose mascara. I have blonde hair and light eyelashes, so without it, I look really young and washed out. I prefer a darker eye and I love how mascara brings out a feminine look.

I am always interested in trying new products and comparing them to some oldies but goodies. Here are my thoughts on the mascara’s I have been using lately.

Benefit: They’re Real Mascara

This mascara is at a higher price point and is sold at Sephora, Ulta, or other make up speciality stores. It comes in jet black and works best on clean lashes. I had heard so much buzz about this mascara and was super excited to try it. Upon the first application, I honestly wasn’t that impressed. It was semi-clumpy, it kind of stung my eyes, and it didn’t apply as smoothly as I would have expected. After reading all the hype about this product, I’m not sure what it is all about. I did repurchase this to see if I would like it later on (and because Ulta had a deal to get the new They’re Real Eyeliner – which I love – with the mascara).

Overall, I give this product a 6/10. It lasted a long time, but it didn’t apply smooth and made my lashes look clumpy.

L’ORÉAL Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

I absolutely LOVE this mascara. It went on super smooth, separated my eyelashes perfectly, and extended them to be long and “fluttery”. It really only takes one coat to get the benefits of this mascara and it applies quickly with ease because of the winged brush. I am obsessed! The only downfall of this mascara is that it has fibers in it to extend lashes, but it takes a strong make up remover to get this off.

I give this a 9/10. It applies beautifully and makes my lashes look full, lengthened, and pretty.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

This is my favorite oldie but goodie. Great Lash was the first mascara my mom bought me when I was in 6th grade. It’s so cute and perfect for everyday use. It doesn’t add a lot of volume or length, but its perfect for me to darken my light lashes and define my eyes ever so slightly for work. And it is super easy to remove. This is the perfect on the go, everyday mascara. I have one in my work bag, one in my purse, and one in my travel toiletries. The best part is that it’s super cheap – you can buy it in two for one packs.

I give this a 7/10 because it is convenient to use and comes off very easily.

What are your favorite mascara’s? Any that you recommend I should try?

Pre-Holiday Shopping Haul!

This past week I did a little shopping at Ulta and Target. I went to Ulta to look for the holiday gift sets and see if there were any good deals on them. And I ended up getting a few spa products too! At Target I bought a mix of beauty products!

Matte About You!

I love a good manicure. Who doesn’t? I knew as soon as I heard of Essie’s “Matte About You” that I would need to try it. I like that it has a unique finish that leaves room for imperfection. This manicure can be done quickly and there is no worry of “smudging” the look.

I applied 2 coats of OPI nail polish in Lincoln Park After Dark. I let that dry for about 5 minutes and applied 1 layer of Essie’s “Matte About You”. It dried instantly and my nails feel really hard/strong. The finish is amazing! So smooth!

Here is a picture of my finished look.

As you can see, the polish dries well and looks very chic. I like that the polish does not budge when you touch things, even after a few minutes. This is great for when you are in a hurry!
I found some other pictures of inspiration on Pinterest that I thought were cute for matte nails. Perhaps I’ll give one of these a try in the near future!

Matte Velvet polish with gold accents
French Tip with Matte polish (My Favorite!!)
Also, found some more inspiration for nails that includes a little glitter!
How cute are these “marble” nails. Apply a coat of glitter between color coats.
And last, a tried and true favorite. Light pink with gold glitter.
What do you think about Matte polish? Have you tried it? What other trends are you trying on your nails?
