Bookshelf – Checkout What I’ve Been Reading Lately

Recently I was on another blog and saw the coolest thing – they had a book shelf through Amazon where they could display the books they recently read. I absolutely LOVE reading so I thought this would be a great addition to my blog!

The link at the top of the page for Bookshelf goes to my personal Amazon page where I display some books that I recently finished. I generally reach for more girly books and I like to read teen fiction novels, so you will see a lot of that. I also like some dark, twisty novels (Gone Girl!) so I have a couple of those as well.

Let me know what you think of the Bookshelf and what types of books you are reading! Would love any suggestions for future reads!

Oh Taylor, I’m Obsessed

It has been a week since the new Taylor CD came out and I have every song memorized. The one that became my favorite is number 2 – and sure enough, its the next song to come out with a music video. I’m obsessed. I can’t even. Literally. She gets better and better. Love.

My other favorite is Bad Blood. I like how her songs are becoming a little edgier – I’m the same age as her so I can totally relate to all her shenanigans.

Her songs aren’t available on spotify, but I highly recommend going out to your local Target and purchasing. The DLX edition, obvi, because it has 3 extra songs, all of which are amaze.

This CD will be on repeat for a while. At least until its aprops to play Christmas music. More on that later.

Spiralized – My new favorite kitchen gadget

I recently received a Paderno Spiralizer for my birthday and wanted to experiment with a few recipes from one of my new favorite blogs – Inspiralized. Ali shows you how to use the spiralizer on a variety of vegetables and some fruits. I wanted to try an easier recipe first so I chose a spiralized zucchini recipe to create some Zoodles!

This dish was the first time I made veggies into noodles and I was blown away at how easy it was to create and how good it tasted! The zucchini was the perfect way to learn how to use the spiralizer and the teriyaki stir fry was a great dish to try this unique spin on. I was very impressed with how easy it was to create the noodles and how quickly they cooked with the rest of the veggies. The dish was amazing!

The next dish I tried was a little bit more difficult because of the tough skin on the squash. It was more work to cut, peel, and prep the squash for the spiralizer. Then the process of spiralizing took longer because it was harder to push the squash through the blade. Once the noodles were made, the recipe was a piece of cake! And quite tasty! The butternut squash was savory and a perfect fall dinner now that the weather has cooled.

Have you used a Spiralizer? What recipes have you tried?

Mascara Review: Benefit, Maybelline, and L’ORÉAL

Mascara Review

If I had to live with one make up product for the rest of my life, I would choose mascara. I have blonde hair and light eyelashes, so without it, I look really young and washed out. I prefer a darker eye and I love how mascara brings out a feminine look.

I am always interested in trying new products and comparing them to some oldies but goodies. Here are my thoughts on the mascara’s I have been using lately.

Benefit: They’re Real Mascara

This mascara is at a higher price point and is sold at Sephora, Ulta, or other make up speciality stores. It comes in jet black and works best on clean lashes. I had heard so much buzz about this mascara and was super excited to try it. Upon the first application, I honestly wasn’t that impressed. It was semi-clumpy, it kind of stung my eyes, and it didn’t apply as smoothly as I would have expected. After reading all the hype about this product, I’m not sure what it is all about. I did repurchase this to see if I would like it later on (and because Ulta had a deal to get the new They’re Real Eyeliner – which I love – with the mascara).

Overall, I give this product a 6/10. It lasted a long time, but it didn’t apply smooth and made my lashes look clumpy.

L’ORÉAL Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

I absolutely LOVE this mascara. It went on super smooth, separated my eyelashes perfectly, and extended them to be long and “fluttery”. It really only takes one coat to get the benefits of this mascara and it applies quickly with ease because of the winged brush. I am obsessed! The only downfall of this mascara is that it has fibers in it to extend lashes, but it takes a strong make up remover to get this off.

I give this a 9/10. It applies beautifully and makes my lashes look full, lengthened, and pretty.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

This is my favorite oldie but goodie. Great Lash was the first mascara my mom bought me when I was in 6th grade. It’s so cute and perfect for everyday use. It doesn’t add a lot of volume or length, but its perfect for me to darken my light lashes and define my eyes ever so slightly for work. And it is super easy to remove. This is the perfect on the go, everyday mascara. I have one in my work bag, one in my purse, and one in my travel toiletries. The best part is that it’s super cheap – you can buy it in two for one packs.

I give this a 7/10 because it is convenient to use and comes off very easily.

What are your favorite mascara’s? Any that you recommend I should try?

This or That?

This weekend is the final wedding I’m attending for this year! I’m so excited to celebrate with my friends and watch the marriage of one of my bests!

Now that it is fall, I wanted to opt for a longer dress in darker colors instead of my typical pastel a-line. I love the empire waist and pleats in both of these dresses. Which would you wear to a fall wedding? This one or that one?

New Apartment: Lake Calhoun

I recently moved into a new apartment that is located by Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis. I’m right across from Minikahda and overlook the Greenway. if you aren’t from Minnapolis, the Greenway is a very long bike path that stretches from the outer suburbs and through Minneapolis and St. Paul.

With moving comes a new, fresh space to design and re-invent my personal style. I’m so excited to share my journey to creating the perfect space for me. The apartment is relatively small, so it won’t take much. But I want to document all of my new design features and ideas here.

Here are some pictures that showcase the “before”.

Have you heard or Wayfair or All Modern? These websites have been a lifesaver with shopping for home goods. I can conveniently shop online and get new ideas for how I want to decorate. Let me know if you guys have purchased anything on there before. I have bought a couple things – another post to come!

Oh Hey!

Oh. My. Goodness. I cannot believe it has nearly been 2 months since I posted! To be honest, I just didn’t know if I wanted to keep blogging or find something else to work on. After a couple months off, I really do miss it and really want to put in the effort this time. Its like a relationship! You gotta put in the effort.

But anyways. A little bit of life lately. Still working at the ad agency on international marketing. Started working out at CorePower Yoga as much as possible. I’m skipping tonight to go to Trivia. Which brings me to the “Wolfpack”. A group of friends who are single, figuring out life, and overall trying to have a good time. It all started about the time I stopped blogging (funny how that happened) and a few of my friends and I started going to trivia night. Trivia led to bingo and other nights out. We went to a lovely dinner for Valentine’s day (so we wouldn’t be alone). Sigh.

What else? Basically my love life is just messed up. Like for real. I can’t even. I have been “focusing on me” the last couple months and I am finally back into a routine. Like, no expecting text messages, no expecting good night phone calls, nothing. What do I really want though? I don’t know. Apparently I want a challenge. As I am a very challenging person to date, I can only imagine what my match will be. Oh Lord.

So, next? What is next–I do not know. I have been on auto pilot the last few weeks and really want to “shake it up”. AKA I need to find a new challenge. Whether its at work or my dating life, I need something. Or, I thought, keeping up with this blog could just be it.

So there ya go. My challenge to myself. Start writing like I mean it. And write a lot.

That’s all for now. More to come (hopefully). And here is a little image I found that completely fits where I am at in life right now. Just trying to find myself in this journey.
